No Reservation Needed: Getting a Free Skin Scan at AMORE Seongsu

Walk down a brick-lined alley in Seongsu-dong and, through a glass storefront, a stark-white space full of product shelves comes into view. Step inside and dozens of brand scents hit you at once. This is AMORE Seongsu, Amorepacific's beauty space in Seoul's Seongdong District.
At a glance: 7 Achasan-ro 11-gil, Seongsu-dong 2-ga, Seongdong-gu, Seoul · Open daily 10:30 a.m.-8:30 p.m. (closed Mondays and on Lunar New Year's Day and Chuseok) · Admission and the basic skin scan are free; custom-made products cost extra · Inquiries: 02-469-8600.
For a traveler who came to Korea to actually touch and try K-beauty products rather than just look at photos of them, the appeal here is simple: no reservation is required for the free experience, so even a tight itinerary allows a quick stop to check things out hands-on.
At the first-floor diagnostic corner, you cleanse your face and stand in front of a scanner. A cool, smooth device briefly touches your cheeks and forehead, and within seconds the screen shows graphs of your oil-moisture balance, pigmentation and pores. Around the tester shelves, scents from dozens of different brands keep drifting past your nose.
If you have extra time and budget, you can move on to the paid custom services. At the CUSTOM.ME corner, you choose the ingredients and scent for your own essence based on your diagnosis, while a blending machine hums with a low motor sound as it mixes the product. The custom foundation-matching service requires advance booking, takes about 40 minutes, and reportedly has only a limited number of daily reservation slots, so getting the time you want isn't always easy (price and slot numbers are provisional).
There's no need to feel disappointed if you can't get a reservation — the free AI skin scan alone is an interesting experience on its own, and afterward you can unwind with a warm cup of tea or coffee at the in-store café. Some staff members can assist in English, so language is rarely a barrier.
Leaving with a bottle made from your own skin data, rather than a logo-printed shopping bag, changes the story a little. It's a more specific kind of souvenir — one only possible in Seoul.
