Korea Extends K-ETA Waiver Through End of 2026

If you're a U.S.-based traveler planning your first trip to Korea this December, here's good news. Korea's Ministry of Justice has decided to keep its temporary K-ETA (Korea Electronic Travel Authorization) waiver in place through December 31, 2026.

Normally, even citizens of waiver-eligible countries must obtain online travel authorization before entering Korea — but while this measure remains in effect, a passport alone is enough to clear immigration.

The extension was finalized on December 29, 2025. Citizens of countries already covered by the K-ETA waiver continue to benefit automatically, with no application or fee required. Travelers who still want the added convenience of skipping the arrival card can apply for K-ETA voluntarily, for a fee. Any K-ETA already issued remains valid until its expiration date and is non-refundable.

If you're unsure whether your nationality qualifies for the waiver, you can check on the official K-ETA website (k-eta.go.kr) by entering your passport details — the moment you select your nationality on the application screen, a pop-up tells you directly whether you're exempt, so you don't have to rely solely on guidance from a travel agency or airline booking site.

If your nationality isn't covered by the waiver, this measure changes nothing for you: you still need to apply for and receive K-ETA approval before departure, as before. During the crowded year-end travel season, skipping one online form can mean less time spent waiting and preparing documents at the arrival hall — a real, practical saving for travelers on a tight itinerary.
